Some of the trees have already come out,
Small leaves sodden in the rain,
But some are only now unfurling
Their buds. I’ve not seen any catkins.
I think most of the trees have decided they
Can’t be bothered with blossom
In this soaking
Flooding year.
But the buds are still exploding gently
With their small solar panels, making
Soft sad kerchiefs of green and gold,
Longing for the sun like me.
